Amy K. Ciraolo met Gary Sinise in September of 2009 when she volunteered to
photograph an event for police, fire and military on the Intrepid in New York City.
It was a private screening of his documentary, Lt. Dan Band: For the Common
Good.
Their paths crossed a month later at a fundraiser for wounded veteran’s in Dallas,
Texas. Amy’s little sister through Big Brother’s Big Sister’s, who lost both her dad
and granddad on 9/11/01, both firefighters, was photographing alongside her.
Gary invited them to the Los Angeles premiere of his documentary and also to
the Mid Season Bash for the cast and crew of CSI NY. Amy asked Gary if she
could photograph the concert and has been photographing him ever since.
From the first time Amy met Gary she was moved by his unwavering dedication
to our wounded soldiers, veteran’s, first responders and families of the fallen.
The Gary Sinise Foundation was formed in 2011 to broaden his message. Gary’s
band, the Lt. Dan Band, named after his character in Forrest Gump, performs
for troops all over the world. Along with supporting Snowball Express and Sky
Ball, Gary has started doing family appreciation days at military hospitals. Under
Building for America’s Bravest, Gary has also partnered with Tunnel to Towers to
build custom smart homes for our severely wounded soldiers.
Amy feels both blessed and honored to be part of the Gary Sinise Foundation
and believes in his saying that we can’t do everything, but we can always do
more.
